Why Should I Collect Stamps?
Is stamp collecting an old fashioned hobby? Well with an estimated 20 million collectors worldwide, it’s safe to assume that stamp collecting is as popular as ever.
The best thing about starting a stamp collection is that you can make it whatever you want! You could be first in line for the latest Royal Mail stamp releases – many of our customers are – or you can pick and choose the themes that you prefer. It’s that simple!
Take the 2024 stamp releases for example, Royal Mail have released Music Giants: The Spice Girls, Weather Forecasting, and Viking Britain so far. Quite an eclectic mix! For younger stamp collectors in particular, it might make more sense to collect stamps that they are more interested in: Marvel Comics, DC Universe, Mr Men & Little Miss, Peppa Pig, The Gruffalo, Star Wars, James Bond, Transformers… you get the picture – your stamp collection is yours to personalise.
How Do I Start a Stamp Collection?
Well you could visit stamp fairs, car boot sales, or search on various online selling platforms and marketplaces for your unique items (particularly useful if want very specific ones) or you could decide that you want to buy from a reputable seller of the many stamps and items available to you. Here’s a recommended checklist for anyone thinking, “I want to start collecting stamps but don’t know where to begin”
- Pick a theme/topic, or go with the latest releases
- Choose which items you want to collect. Some options are: First Day Covers, Fan Sheets, Collector Sheets, Mini Sheets, Stamp Cards
(If it’s First Day Covers you want to collect, remember there’s also the choice of Cotswold, Stuart, or Royal Mail envelope designs) - Buy an Album to keep them all safe – we have a Buy One Get One Free offer on at the moment to help you get started!
